My name is Theresa Lyons and I am a Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor, Certified Spiritual Life Coach, and an Intuitive Counselor.  I combine the latest in nutrition science with a system of Applied Kinesiology (muscle testing) finding areas in the physical and energetic body that can be at the root cause so many physical, emotional and energetic imbalances.  By identifying and releasing these imbalances, the body activates it's innate healing capibilities.  Sometimes it's not the lack of willpower but trapped emotions.  This therapy is a offered with nutrition counseling and a stand-alone service.

 

At Guided Wings Nutrition and Wellness, the first step is to allow your subconscious mind a way to reveal the true underlying causes of issues you are experiencing.  Similar to the "check engine" light on a car.  The body is a self-healing organism.  It knows what is wrong and what it needs.  Next step is a complete assessment  of the whole person and the sum total of their life experiences so an individualized wellness plan can be created.  

 

Diet has a profound effect on our biology.  New discoveries have made it clear that not only is it what we eat a factor but factors such as poor sleep, enviornmental toxins, food sensitivities, changes in our microbiome, and leaky gut all drive inflammation thus causing weight gain, weight loss resistance and factors like hormone dysfunction, nutrition deficiencies, disrupted sleep, stress, and our own genetics, are contributing to our body being out of balance. Sugars and starches(bread, rice, etc,) are stresses on the body causing spikes in insulin and cortisol.  Cortisol is a fat-storing hormone.  High cortisol literally shuts down our cells' ability to burn calories thus increaseing fat deposition around the middle and muscle mass is lost.  Human metabolism is complex.  Foods we consume have a physiological effect on hormones, insulin, blood sugar and inflammation.  Our mood and cognitive function is even affected. It is no surprise that when we consume whole foods (not processed in any way), healthy fats and quality proteins inflammation is reversed and we lose weight, thus reducing blood sugar levels and other inflammatory conditions in the body.  Most diseases today start as our immune systems getting stressed in some way.

 

Functional Nutrition, or Whole Body Nutrition,  addresses the whole person, not just a set of symptoms or a diagnosis. Functional Nutrition Counselors spend time with their clients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and chronic illness.  Functional Nutrition supports the unique individuals' health and well-being by giving the body a more favorable enviornment in which to return to health.

 

 I partner with you to guide you through lifestyle modifications that will encourage your body back into the natural balance it so greatly craves.   This is not a quick fix, or another "diet" or magic pill to relieve symptoms.   This is getting to the roots of the symptoms  and following new lifestyle modifications to improve overall wellness.  Your symptoms or diagnosis are "clues"  that the body is in disharmony. Think of me as your personal detective that puts the clues together to understand what's going on in there.   I support my clients every way I can through their journey.  Partnering as well with other healthcare providers. 

 

New weight loss medications are effective in weight loss, however long term effects on nutrient deficiencies are continuously being studied.  Even while taking these medications it is important to establish proper nutrition and lifestyle modifications for continued success.
